NXCK's "LIVE FAST DIE SLOW" EP: A Pop-Punk Resurgence from Dallas

NXCK, a Dallas-based pop-punk trio made up of Nick Bagrow on lead guitar and vocals, Billie Wigington on drums, and Ariel Ditta on bass and backup vocals, debuted with the EP "LIVE FAST DIE SLOW." This five-track album reflects the raw intensity and nostalgic essence of early-2000s punk music, as well as the genre's young revolt.

NXCK was founded by three friends who met while working at a music school. They instantly bonded over their mutual love of skateboarding and classic punk influences such as Blink-182, Green Day, and Bowling for Soup. Their debut EP exemplifies that link, exhibiting music that is as concerned with having fun as it is with conveying young issues.

"Live Fast Die Slow" begins with the sound of a cassette tape being loaded, quickly transporting listeners to a period when music felt more real. The EP opens with "The Party Never Ends," an anthem about carefree nights spent with friends, living carelessly, and enjoying youth. "Sunkissed Skies" comes next, providing a vivid image of summer in Texas, complete with references to the state's notoriously beautiful sunsets.

"MySpace" stands out as a scathing remark on the present music industry's reliance on social media above true talent, evoking memories of when musicians could grow fanbases on MySpace without having to become influencers. "She" digs into the complications of modern romance, conveying the bittersweet sensation of wanting more from a relationship that is mostly focused on partying.

The EP ends with "Title Track," which features Myah Mayhew on vocals and piano. Written at a very difficult period in Nick's life, this song acts as a cathartic release, rounding up the EP on an emotional note while leaving listeners wanting more.

NXCK’s "LIVE FAST DIE SLOW" isn't just an EP; it’s a statement. The band’s dedication to their craft is evident in every chord, and their refusal to conform to the social media-driven music industry is a refreshing reminder of what makes punk rock so enduring. Their energetic live performances, highlighted by the EP’s release party at ZoundsSounds B-Side, where they sold out all 100 tickets, are quickly earning them a reputation as a band to watch.

NXCK's music is as real as it gets. With "LIVE FAST DIE SLOW," they've nailed the spirit of what makes pop-punk great, delivering an EP that will appeal to anybody who has ever felt the pain of growing up too quickly.

As they continue to work in the studio and on stage, NXCK is prepared to lead the charge in the pop-punk revival, reminding us all that sometimes the best way to deal with life's issues is to play loud, live fast, and never look back.
