NYC-based artist Roman Angelos, known for his lush, cinematic soundscapes, has released the much-anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed Tropical Nites album, titled Tropical Nites: Remixes and Lost Tracks. Released on Music Factory Records, this album is packed with fresh, innovative remixes by some of today’s most celebrated electronic artists, making it a vibrant companion to the original album, which has also garnered Grammy consideration in the Best Tropical Latin Album category this year.
Angelos, aka composer Rich Bennett, first wowed audiences with his sun-drenched album Tropical Nites in June 2024, blending layers of jazz, bossa nova, and lounge influences with an all-star lineup of musicians, including Brittany Anjou on vibraphone, Ben Zwerin on bass, and Rose Rutledge on flute. This sibling album keeps the original’s tropical warmth alive while infusing it with new perspectives from remixing giants like Ursula 1000 (who’s worked with B-52s and Thievery Corporation) and Scott Solter (known for projects with St. Vincent and Spoon). Each remixed track echoes the spirit of the original while introducing captivating beats and ambient sounds, turning a summer breeze into a fresh club-ready anthem.
The album opens with the standout Ursula 1000 remix of “Tropical Nites,” which dives into an immersive, chill vibe blending bossa nova and lounge house. Infused with tropical bird sounds, steel drums, and lush female vocal samples, the remix captures the essence of summer while beckoning listeners to the dance floor. This seamless mix of ambiance and rhythm embodies Angelos’s vision of creating a “soundtrack for an endless summer.”
For Bennett, Ursula 1000 was a top choice for the project. “I’ve admired his work since the early 2000s,” Bennett shared. “He has this unique knack for creating tropical, escapist worlds that can transform any room into a summer getaway.”
In addition to remixes, the album includes original “lost tracks” from the Tropical Nites sessions, including collaborations with renowned pianist Frank LoCrasto and Brazilian singer Mari Rosa. Their contributions deepen the record's sonic palette, bringing rich textures that enhance the tropical motif, allowing fans to enjoy an even broader musical experience from Roman Angelos.
Fans can also look forward to a very limited-edition vinyl of the Tropical Nites: Ursula 1000 Remix. Only five lathe records will be available at Angelos’s live shows this fall, making it a rare collector’s item. Featuring cover art by UK artist MJ Langthorne, the vinyl is designed to be as much a visual treat as an auditory one.
Tropical Nites: Remixes and Lost Tracks continues Angelos’s musical journey of escape, celebration, and sonic exploration, bringing the spirit of island life to audiences everywhere. With a remix for every mood and a production quality that shines throughout, this album is sure to be a favorite for lounge lovers and electronic enthusiasts alike.
